If you’re like most people in New York City, you get up each morning and go to work without a second thought as to whether you’ll make it through the day without being seriously injured.
It’s a different story for construction workers.
Despite advancements in technology and equipment, as well as the implementation of rules and laws meant to improve safety, construction sites remains some of the most dangerous worksites in America.
Case in point: A construction worker was badly injured on Monday, June 22 as he was working on a future grocery store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
According to the FDNY, the man “became trapped in a confined space” at the worksite, on North 4th Street and Bedford Avenue, around 11:30 a.m. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where it was determined that his injuries were not life-threatening.
As of this writing, it was not known if any citations would be issued to the contractor.
Although the man’s injuries were not life-threatening, that certainly does not mean they were not serious. There is a good chance these injuries could disrupt his ability to make a living and have almost certainly changed his personal, family and domestic circumstances for the worse. He now has medical bills and possibly lost wages to worry about as well.
