1) Tracy Morgan Survived a Terrible Car Accident in 2014
In 2014, a Walmart truck struck Tracy Morgan’s limousine bus on the New Jersey Turnpike. Sadly, the motor vehicle accident resulted in the death of James McNair, Morgan’s collaborator and friend. Morgan suffered severe injuries. The doctors who treated Morgan’s injuries after the accident put him into a medically induced coma for two full weeks.
Morgan suffered terrible injuries from the car accident. He broke every facial bone, his ribs, and his femur. Morgan also sustained a head injury that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. When he woke up from his coma, he was blind for a week. After the coma, he reported that he acted erratically and that it affected him mentally and physically. He developed severe depression during his long recovery period. Morgan credits his wife with helping him recover and get back into comedy. In 2019, Morgan found himself the victim of another car accident when an SUV made a last minute turn and sideswiped his car. He was not injured in this accident.
2) A Recent Pileup in Colorado Resulted in the Death of Four People
In April 2019, a dangerous pileup on Interstate 70 outside of Denver occurred. The accident happened as a result of a semi truck slamming into a group cars stalled in traffic. The driver of the semi-truck either could not or would not stop his vehicle. The driver of the semi truck, Rogel Lazaro Aguilera-Mederos, 23, survived the crash with minor injuries. The local Colorado police have charged him with four separate counts of vehicular homicide. In total, the horrific accident involved 24 cars and four semi-trucks.
A massive fire started after the crash. One of the semi-trucks was carrying two-by-fours of lumber which caught on fire, accelerating the blaze. The Colorado Department of Transportation reported that the fire reached at least 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit. Ambulances took six people to the hospital and sadly. While trying to put the fire out, a firefighter suffered injuries after debris hit him, possibly from a tire exploding due to the heat. While it is tragic that four people died from this accident, it is incredible that the driver and many others involved did not.
3) Famous Painter Frida Kahlo Suffered Injuries from a Car Accident That Left Her in Pain
Renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo boarded a bus after school in 1925. It was an overcast, rainy day. The bus she and her friend were riding tried to pass a streetcar that then crashed into the side of the bus. The bus accident ended in tragedy. Several passengers died from their injuries, and several were killed instantly. Miraculously, Kahlo survived the crash, though she was gravely injured. One of the iron handrails on the bus impaled her through her pelvis. Other passengers helped remove the bar. The handrail fractured her pelvis and punctured her uterus and abdomen. Additionally, her right leg broke in 11 places, her shoulder was dislocated, her collar bone was broken, and her spine suffered breaks in three areas.
Kahlo suffered an abundance of medical injuries resulting from the bus accident. During her extremely long recovery, she took up painting. Kahlo was bed-ridden for several months at home. Before the bus accident, she set out to become an illustrator of medical textbooks. The pain she suffered from her injuries, however, resulted in her having to drop out of school.
After procuring a special lap easel, she began painting from her bed. She used an overhead mirror in her bed to paint her famous self-portraits. She suffered pain for the rest of her life and endured 30 surgeries. In one operation, doctors broke and re-set her back. Even 40 years after the bus accident, her old injuries flared, causing her to have a gangrenous leg amputated. Amazingly, Frida survived this bus accident.
