A man was killed in late June after he was trapped in an elevator shaft at a Bronx housing development, authorities said.
NYPD officers were called to the New York City Housing Authority development on Tinton Avenue in the Longwell neighborhood around 4 a.m. on Monday, July 28. There, they learned that a man was unconscious and was wedged between an elevator car and a wall between the building’s 18th and 19th floors.
Emergency personnel were able to get the man out of the elevator shaft, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The man has not been identified, but police did say he was in his 20s and foul play is not suspected in the fatal elevator accident.
Wrongful Death in The Bronx
This incident is a terrible reminder that elevators — devices most of us use every single day without thinking twice — can actually be very dangerous. Of course, they are much safer when building owners follow safety regulations and have elevators properly maintained and inspected. It’s too early to say what happened in this particular incident, but as personal injury attorneys serving the Bronx who work with injured clients, we can say that this does not always happen. In many cases, property owners are often a lot less careful than they should be, and it’s far too common for innocent people to be hurt as a result of their negligence and carelessness.
