Emron Hossain, 18, was struck by a careless driver in Woodside, Queens, N.Y. while riding his bike. For many New York residents, bicycles are an easy and essential way to commute throughout the city. New Yorkers that use bicycles on a regular basis may forget the dangers of bicycling throughout New York City. Emron Hossain is a tragic reminder about the dangers associated with riding your bicycle.
Emron was riding his bicycle home from work at Papa Johns in Elmhurst; when according to witnesses a car tried to beat a red light at 54th St. Emron landed on the roof of the car and pleaded for the driver to stop. The car continued and Emron was flung from the roof of the car as the driver made a hard right turn. Emergency workers quickly arrived on the scene and rushed Hossain to Elmhurst Hospital Center where doctors listed him in serious condition.
The alleged vehicle involved in the bicycle hit and run accident was found abandoned in Woodside several blocks away. The vehicle was a black Honda with front end damaged consistent with the accident.
It’s important for New York residents to remember to take the proper precautions when riding a bicycle. Both drivers and bicyclists share the road and everyone should always remain cognizant of each other. We hope and wish for Emron Hoosain’s recovery and health.
