Liability In Plattsburgh Car Accidents
All drivers have a legal responsibility to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner. Drivers are supposed to yield the right of way to oncoming vehicles before making left turns. According to New York Vehicle & Traffic Law (Sec. 1411), “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Victims of car accidents often suffer from very serious and costly injuries including:
- Head trauma
- Spinal cord injuries
- Broken bones
- Organ damage
Any person that is injured in a car accident with a driver making a left turn may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Many accident victims may not realize the full extent of their injuries until several months after an accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal rights are.
