Liability In Essex Fells Crane Accidents
Crane accidents may seem like a freak occurrence but they are actually fairly common. According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, “From 2011 to 2015, the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) reported 220 total crane-related deaths, an average of 44 per year over this 5-year period. Men accounted for 217 of the 220 fatal injuries involving cranes. White, non-Hispanic workers accounted for 74 percent of fatal injuries involving cranes, while 14 percent involved Hispanic and Latino workers.” There are a number of reasons that crane accidents happen:
- Cranes occasionally buckle or collapse under their own weight. Cranes have weight limits and if these limits are exceeded this may result in a collapse.
- Improper crane assembly may also contribute to accidents.
- Mechanical failures with the crane can and often do lead to cranes tipping over.
In order to reduce the likelihood of crane accidents a competent person must inspect the crane after it has been assembled. If a mechanical issue with the crane itself led to an accident the manufacturer of the crane could be held liable through a product liability lawsuit. Any person that is injured could potentially recover damages for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A crane accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
