Liability In Staten Island Police Vehicle Accidents
Police officers and other emergency vehicles are held to a different standard when it comes to driving. They are allowed to speed, run red lights and drive on the opposite side of the road. But they must be doing this in response to an actual emergency with their lights and sirens on. Still, they must not drive with a reckless disregard for the safety of other drivers. Police officers must be weary of weather conditions and slow down as appropriate.
Any person that is injured in a car accident with a police vehicle may be able to seek justice through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. It’s important that victims continue to seek follow up care after an accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
