Liability In Huntington Station Police Vehicle Accidents
Emergency vehicles in New York are allowed to perform a number of actions that would otherwise be illegal to civilian drivers. They can speed, run red lights and travel on the wrong side of the road. But they must be doing this in response to an actual emergency and have their lights and sirens on. But even when an emergency driver has their lights and sirens on they must not drive with a “reckless disregard” for the safety of others.
Any person that is injured in a car accident with a police vehicle may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Most accident victims may not even realize the full extent of their injuries until several weeks or months later. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
